The first year of your puppy’s life is a busy time and we are here to help you.
The following is our recommended schedule for puppy vaccinations and care:
8 WEEKS OF AGE:
1. General physical examination and weigh in.
2. Consultation and questions regarding nutrition and behavior.
3. Vaccinations- DHP/ PV (first)
D= Distemper (severe bowel diseases)
H= Hepatitis (liver failure disorder)
P= Parainfluenza (form of kennel cough)
PV= Parvo Virus (severe bowl disease)
4. Roundworm medication dispensed.
5. Stool sample checked for parasites.
6. Puppy care package given.
12 WEEKS OF AGE:
1. General physical examination and weigh in.
2. Consultation and questions.
3. Vaccinations- DHP/ PV (second)
Bordetella (for high risk dogs)
Leptospira (for high risk dogs)
4. Stool sample rechecked for parasites.
16 WEEKS OF AGE:
1. General physical examination and weigh in.
2. Consultation and questions.
3. Vaccinations- DHP /PV (may be necessary in certain circumstances)
Bordetella (second)
Leptospira (second)
RV= Rabies (a neurological fatal illness that is a human risk as well),
4. Discussion of neutering or spaying and microchipping.
5. Discussion of pre-operative blood work.
6. Stool sample rechecked for parasites.
5-6 MONTHS OF AGE:
1. Spaying of female dogs (one day and one night hospitalization with complete ovariohysterectomy).
2. Pre-operative blood work recommended prior to surgical appointment.
3. Intravenous fluids throughout procedure.
4. Identification with microchip.
6 MONTHS OF AGE:
1. Neutering of male dogs (one day hospitalization).
2. Pre-operative blood work recommended prior to surgical appointment.
3. Intravenous fluids throughout procedure.
4. Identification with microchip.
SPRING:
1. Blood test to check for Heartworm and preventative medication dispensed.
2. Flea prevention programs recommended.
16 MONTHS OF AGE AND ANNUALLY:
1. General physical examination and weigh in.
2. Consultation and questions.
3. DHP /PV vaccinations, (Bordetella and Leptospira vaccines if high risk).
Rabies vaccine at 16 months, then every 3 years.
4. Stool sample checked for intestinal parasites.
5.) Heartworm and Wellness testing.
